The California Energy Commission is seeking a strategic, collaborative, and visionary leader to oversee a team of CEQA Project Managers responsible for some of the state’s most complex energy facility projects.

In this high-impact role, you’ll provide technical and programmatic leadership, guide environmental and environmental justice analyses, shape innovative energy policy, and advise executive and Commission leadership on critical energy and environmental issues. You’ll represent the CEC with state and federal agencies, industry leaders, communities, the Legislature, and other stakeholders, while championing a positive, inclusive environment where your team can thrive.

Salary range: $12,562.00 - $15,724.00 per month

Energy experience is required for this role:

Broad, extensive (more than five years) and progressively responsible technical experience with a gas, electric, communications, or water utility, or with an allied industry involving familiarity with the operation of one of these utilities or with a utility regulatory agency. At least two years of this experience shall have been in a responsible administrative capacity.

Desirable Qualifications

Experience organizing and directing multidisciplinary teams of technical specialists and consultants performing environmental review of development projects and working on a variety of related technical and analytical task, including establishing priorities and schedules, resolving project issues, and ensuring timely completion of high-quality work products.

Experience with and working understanding of the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) and other relevant laws for the protection of air and water quality and other environmental resources, and public health and safety.

Experience supervising staff, including providing technical direction, training, coaching, constructive feedback, performance evaluations, workload management, and other personnel management activities while fostering a collaborative and productive work environment.

Experience representing an organization in public and interagency settings, including meetings, briefings, workshops, hearings, or other formal proceedings, and working effectively with governmental agencies and other stakeholders on complex or sensitive issues.

Excellent written and oral communication skills, including demonstrated ability to draft, review, and edit complex technical and policy documents, and communicate information clearly and effectively to diverse audiences.
