TITLE:

Machinist, Experienced Pay: $28.52 - $33.38

• Under general supervision, sets up, operates, and adjusts various types of conventional or automatic machines including lathes, drill presses, grinders, and other precision equipment.
• Works from drawings and written instructions to create replacement and new parts in making repairs to metal parts as well as for experimental apparatus or prototype equipment.
• Work is diversified and machining is performed to ordinary tolerances.
• Requires knowledge of various metals and of measurements used in machining processes.
• Typically requires a high school education or equivalent and one to four years of experience.
• Frequently reports to a Machining Supervisor.

TITLE:

Machinist, Senior Pay: $30.67 - $35.90

• Under general direction, sets up, operates, and adjusts various types of conventional or automatic machines including lathes, drill presses, grinders, and other precision equipment.
• Works from drawings and written instructions to create replacement and new parts in making complex repairs to metal parts as well as for experimental apparatus or prototype equipment.
• Work is diversified and machining is performed to ordinary tolerances.
• Requires extensive knowledge of various metals and of measurements used in machining processes.
• May provide technical leadership and assist in training less experienced machinists.
• Typically requires a high school education or equivalent and four or more years of experience.
• Frequently reports to a Machining Supervisor.

TITLE:

Tool & Die Maker, Senior Pay: $39.28 - $45.97

• Under limited supervision, sets up, programs, operates, and optimizes a wide range of advanced conventional and CNC machines including lathes, mills, grinders, drill presses, and precision forming or cutting equipment.
• Produces, repairs, adapts, and rectifies dies, molds, and other mechanical or soft tooling used for production, prototype, and experimental applications.
• Interprets complex blueprints, CAD models, and detailed specifications to achieve high-precision dimensional results, consulting technical drawings and performing operative and verification tests to ensure conformance to exacting engineering standards.
• Demonstrates mastery of machining theory, precision metrology, and material behavior across metals, composites, and soft tooling substrates.
• Develops and validates machining processes for complex or non-standard parts including mold cavities, jigs, fixtures, forming tools, and prototype assemblies, while diagnosing and correcting mechanical or dimensional deviations.
• Provides technical leadership and mentorship to less-experienced machinists, collaborating with engineers and design teams to improve manufacturability, reduce setup times, and extend tooling life cycles.
• Typically requires a high school education or equivalent and eight or more years of diversified machining experience, including advanced CNC programming, mold and die making, soft tooling fabrication, and process optimization.
• Frequently reports to a Machining Supervisor or Manufacturing Engineering Manager.
