Overview
An experienced CNC Mill Machinist is needed to handle setup and operation of CNC milling equipment in a high-output production environment. This role involves carrying out accurate milling operations, adjusting programs when needed, installing and dialing in tooling, and inspecting complex, tight-tolerance parts. The right person works independently, has strong mechanical aptitude, and consistently maintains high standards of quality and productivity.
Responsibilities- Configure and operate CNC milling machines in line with job travelers and work instructions.
- Review and interpret blueprints, part layouts, and setup documents to understand all part requirements.
- Choose proper tooling, set and verify tool offsets, and confirm part dimensions using precision inspection instruments.
- Perform minor modifications to CNC programs to improve cut quality, efficiency, and tool life.
- Check first-piece and in-process parts to verify dimensional accuracy and adherence to specifications.
- Identify machining problems and take corrective action to resolve issues quickly.
- Keep the work area clean, organized, and compliant with all safety and housekeeping standards.
- Support the creation and continuous improvement of milling processes and setup documentation for repeat work.
- Coordinate with engineering, supervision, and production staff to meet schedule and throughput requirements.
- Minimum of 5 years setting up and running CNC milling machines.
- Ability to read and understand G-code and perform basic program edits.
- Strong knowledge of milling methods, work holding/fixturing strategies, and cutting tools.
- Skilled at reading complex engineering drawings and interpreting tolerance requirements.
- Prior experience in a job shop or high-mix, low-volume environment is preferred.
- Proficient in inspection techniques using calipers, micrometers, and other precision measurement tools.
- Capable of lifting up to 45 lbs and standing for prolonged periods.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; advanced machining or manufacturing training is beneficial.
