Position Summary:
The Assistant Inventory Manager is responsible for overseeing and coordinating the flow of raw materials (purchased) and finished products (made) to balance supply with customer demand, aiming to reduce carrying costs and avoid stockouts. It uses methods like First-In-First-Out (FIFO) and Just-in-Time (JIT) to manage stock levels efficiently. These positions act as the “hub” for our inventory tracking, ensuring materials move accurately and efficiently from vendors to fabrication, assembly, and ultimately to shipping and customer delivery.

Rather than direct shop-floor supervision, this position focuses on communication, precise tracking and documentation, process integrity, and cross-department coordination. Strong experience in inventory management and inventory systems is required.

Key Responsibilities:

Vendor and Inbound Materials Coordination

  • Coordinate material flow from vendors to fabrication and shop locations

  • Ensure accurate documentation, visibility, and tracking of incoming materials

  • Communicate with purchasing, receiving, and inventory teams to resolve discrepancies

  • Monitor lead times, shortages, and delivery issues that impact production

Internal Material Flow and Inventory Process

  • Oversee inventory processes supporting fabrication, assembly, and production teams

  • Ensure inventory movements are accurately recorded within inventory and ERP systems

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for inventory-related questions across departments

  • Identify breakdowns in material flow and work cross-functionally to resolve them

Systems and Inventory Control

  • Maintain accuracy and integrity of inventory systems and related data

  • Analyze inventory data to identify trends, risks, and improvement opportunities

  • Support cycle counts, reconciliations, and root-cause analysis of discrepancies

  • Partner with inventory and operations teams to improve process consistency

Receiving, Shipping, and Customer Delivery

  • Coordinate logistics from purchase through final assembly, and outbound shipping

  • Ensure materials and finished goods are properly staged, documented, and prepared for shipment

  • Work with logistics providers and internal teams to ensure timely and accurate deliveries

  • Act as a communication bridge between production, logistics, and customer-facing teams

Process Ownership and Communication

  • Serve as the central “catch-all” for inventory and supply tracking information

  • Develop, document, and refine inventory and logistics processes

  • Ensure consistent communication across purchasing, inventory, production, and shipping

  • Support leadership with reporting, insights, and recommendations

Qualifications:

  • Required experience in inventory management, logistics, or materials control

  • Strong familiarity with inventory systems (Epicor) and ERP platforms

  • Proven ability to manage processes across multiple departments

  • Excellent organizational and communication skills

  • Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, production-driven environment

  • Analytical mindset with attention to detail and data accuracy

  • Self-directed, dependable, and committed to accountability and follow-through

Our Values in Action:
The ideal candidate:

  • Thinks creatively to improve material flow and inventory processes

  • Acts with honor and integrity in all inventory and logistics decisions

  • Shows respect to vendors, coworkers, and cross-functional teams

  • Seeks innovation through systems, data, and process improvement
