OverviewThe Weld Supervisor is responsible for inspecting welding, material handling, material storage, and general construction of new steel storage tanks, vessels, and structures as well as repairs. The role reports directly to the Construction Manager and routinely interacts with the Erection Superintendent.
Responsibilities- Quality Control:
Know and understand contractual requirements; inspect materials for correctness and damage; consult with the Authorized Inspector or Customer Representative; schedule NDE and notify applicable parties; ensure calibration on equipment is current; maintain records on site. - Welding:
Know and understand the contractual requirements and the WPS; keep track of welder qualifications; ensure electrode and consumable materials are properly stored and conditioned; ensure proper fit‑up and cleanliness of field weld joints; know and understand welder skill levels; communicate WPS requirements to welders; demonstrate if needed; check welder progress and assist where needed. - Training:
Visually inspect each welder’s work and progress; provide welding demonstrations; encourage welders to achieve higher standards of quality and productivity; actively participate in safety awareness and training. - Safety:
Lead by example; participate actively in safety meetings; actively participate in correcting unsafe conditions; provide daily safety input through I Care, JSA, Good Catch, and 5x5 programs. - Inspection and Testing:
Ensure work meets drawings, standards, and codes; ensure and assist testing and NDE is current and properly done; ensure all work is completed and signed off. - Reporting:
Record drawings; prepare Weld Supervisor Report; complete Safety Questionnaire; maintain check lists and RT/UT reports.
- Complete any other task required.
- Ability to read a standard measuring tape.

- Communication:
Effectively verbally communicate directions from craft supervisors and respond to questions from managers and fellow workers. - Mathematical:
Apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. - Technical:
Read and understand drawings; set up and run CBI welding equipment; use a transit. - Safety:
Work safely at all times, meet standards of safety awareness, and comply with safety requirements and proper use, operation, and handling of tools, equipment, and materials. - Attendance:
Meet all attendance standards. - Technical Proficiency:
Possess the knowledge and skills required to perform the job within the defined schedule. - Quality of Work:
Effectively analyze, organize, and execute work to meet quality requirements. - Teamwork:
Interact well with others, respect individuals, be helpful, and behave in a professional, courteous manner.
Normal work environment will be shop or field. Exposure to outdoor weather conditions, loud noise, working near moving mechanical parts, electrical energy, construction equipment, vibration, fumes, chemicals, and airborne particles. Physical demands:
Standing, walking, sitting, pushing, pulling, climbing, balancing, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, handling, fingering, feeling, vision, hearing, lifting (0‑10 lbs: frequent; 10‑20 lbs: occasional; 25‑50 lbs: occasional; 50‑100 lbs: occasional; 100 lbs+: not present).
