This position assists in the implementation of work schedules, safety programs, logistics, and record keeping in conjunction with the facility manager. It performs all aspects of grain handling and facility operations.
Responsibilities- Assist in the implementation of work schedules, safety programs, logistics, and record keeping.
- Weigh and grade inbound and outbound grain and grain products to ensure compliance with SFD specifications.
- Prepare scale receipts and enter deliveries into the database.
- Operate loading/unloading equipment to ship or receive grain products.
- Inspect grain facilities daily to ensure equipment maintains proper condition of stored grains.
- Help the facility manager schedule logistics related to inbound and outbound grain.
- Maintain and handle inventories to maximize SFD profitability, including grain movements, condition, and blending of grain products.
- Identify problems or improvements and work with the facility manager to find solutions.
- Deal with customers on a daily basis.
- Assist in implementing any specific work or safety programs set forth by SFD.
- Ensure compliance with all environmental laws and procedures to which Smithfield Foods and Smithfield Hog Production subscribes.
- Report all environmental issues immediately to the supervisor.
- Read and understand the company’s emergency notification process and review that policy at the work site.
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred.
- Ability to understand and comply with all safety policies and practices.
- Verbal and written communication skills; interpersonal skills.
- Effective communication with grain customers.
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
- Availability to work extended weekday and weekend hours during grain harvest seasons.
- Ability to work well in a fast‑paced, dynamic environment.
- Ability to be respectful, approachable, and team oriented while building strong working relationships and a positive work environment.
- Ability to lift and move up to 50 lbs, stand, walk, use hands, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and talk or hear regularly.
- Ability to work at elevated heights and be exposed to moving mechanical parts, outside weather conditions, cold, heat, grain dust, grain/mill odors, and noisy conditions.
The job requires frequent standing, walking, use of hands to handle material, reaching with hands and arms, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and frequent work at elevated heights. The environment may expose the employee to moving mechanical parts, outside weather conditions, cold, heat, grain dust, grain/mill odors, and noisy conditions. The employee may have to lift or move up to 50 lbs.
