Job Summary
Manager, Machinist – Responsible for ensuring and maintaining manufacturing standards, scheduling, safety, quality, and staffing at the Marshfield, Missouri plant of Architectural Components Group, Inc. (a subsidiary of Armstrong World Industries).
Job ResponsibilitiesThis employee is accountable for meeting production schedules, ensuring a safe work environment, enforcing company policy, and mentoring staff. The role also performs duties of the Production Supervisor when necessary.
- Direct the work activities of 2–25 employees.
- Conduct morning huddles, provide daily direction and goals.
- Maintain Gemba and Planner boards; prepare for Gemba walk.
- Sign off on 1st‑piece accuracy and running checklists to guarantee 100% product quality.
- Assist with employee interviews, reviews, and 30/60/90‑day check‑ins.
- Ensure punctuality and on‑task performance of all staff.
- Collaborate with Engineering & Quality to solve floor issues.
- Work with materials & scheduling teams to resolve parts issues.
- Verify all parts that leave the department meet drawing requirements.
- Operate production machinery (moulders, gang ripsaw, planer, shaper cut‑off saws, wide‑belt sander, optisander, micro‑perf machine, Hot Press) and set up complex tooling.
- Complete reports and logs; follow up on work schedules.
- Interpret process sheets for workers and read measuring instruments.
- Maintain a clean, organized work area at shift end.
- Communicate with direct reports, Safety, Quality, and Human Resources departments to ensure compliance with OSHA 1910, quality, and legal standards.
- Understand softwood and hardwood lumber sources, grades, and species characteristics.
- Overtime flexibility.
- Critical thinking in custom construction methods.
- Ability to read Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
- Strategic mindset with change‑management and talent‑development skills.
- Experience setting and evaluating efficient workflows.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Prior experience managing people.
- Strong problem‑solving skills.
- Familiarity with NC equipment and office‑to‑floor information flow.
- Dependable, punctual, and good attendance.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and relationship‑building skills.
- Minimum five years of manufacturing experience.
- Experience in quality assurance systems.
The position requires frequent standing and walking, use of hands to handle and feel materials, and occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds. The employee must have good vision for close, distance, color, and depth perception and be able to adjust focus.
Shift & Schedule1st shift – 5:00 am to 3:30 pm, Monday‑Thursday 4 / 10; overtime on Friday/saturday. Prorated vacation: 80 hours; sick time: 24 hours; 10 paid holidays, Wellness Day, STD, LTD, 401(k) match, medical, RX, dental, vision, life insurance.
