Position: Carpenter / Case Builder
Summary: Gateway’s Fabrication Department builds and customizes products for the live event industry. The Carpenter will participate in all phases of manufacturing those products. The Carpenter will assist with the layout of a build and finish treatment of set design, road cases/caddies, flight cases, or other projects, as directed by their supervisor. These builds will include working with wood, aluminum extrusions, steel, plastics, paints, and other materials as required.
This position reports to the Fabrication Supervisor.
Major Responsibilities:
- Operate all power tools as required.
- Work with the shop team to layout, assemble, and finish all work.
- Read drawings to create and assemble fabrication projects.
- Load and unload trucks as required.
- Maintain quality standards as directed by Gateway Studios & Production Services.
- Maintain safety standards as directed by Gateway Studios & Production Services.
- Understand quality standards, equipment operations, safety requirements, and departmental procedures.
- Ensure the correct use of safety equipment, correct safe fabrication procedures, correct operating methods, required safety checks, and emergency recovery procedures utilizing rigging checklist.
- Responsible for all work being performed safely and in compliance with safety standards and all requirements including stop-work authority.
- Always maintain a safe work environment and ensure safe practice work habits and quality control standards are met.
- Attendance is an essential requirement for this position.
- To be determined by supervisor on a permanent or project basis.
Education/Certificates:
- High School Diploma or GED.
- 2 years or more of shop experience.
- Familiarity with the operation of all shop power tools, and larger cutting equipment associated with a carpentry shop (table saws, chop saws, routers, bandsaws, etc).
- Strong levels of carpentry experience with various types of materials.
- Ability to read and interpret cut sheets, layout, and fabrication prints.
- Strong Math skills a plus.
- Understanding of basic industry terminology.
- Understanding of basic shop safety terminology.
