Structural Steel Detailer

An effective Structural Steel is responsible for producing accurate and complete shop drawings, erection drawings, material lists, and supporting documentation required for the fabrication and erection of structural steel. This position serves as a critical link between engineering, fabrication, project management, and field installation.

The Structural Steel Detailer must be highly organized, detail-oriented, and committed to producing quality work while meeting project schedules. This position requires strong communication skills, technical aptitude, and a commitment to the Bountiful Steel Core Values.

Work Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Structural Steel Detailing

• Create detailed fabrication and erection drawings using Tekla Structures. Produce shop drawings for structural steel members, stairs, handrails, miscellaneous metals, and custom fabricated components per fabricators established standards.
• Generate Deliverable packages for fabrication and field use, including Power Fab Data, CNC Files, Bolt Lists, Stud Lists, Manufactured Part Lists, Assembly Drawings, Single Part Drawings, Advanced Purchasing Data, etc. Review contract drawings, specifications, addenda, and engineering documents.
• Verify dimensions, connections, member sizes, and detailing requirements.
• Coordinate projects with project managers, engineers, architects, fabricators, and erection crews.

Project Coordination

• Prepare and track Requests for Information (RFIs).
• Review design revisions and incorporate changes into project documents.
• Participate in project kickoff meetings and detailing reviews.
• Communicate drawing conflicts or constructability concerns promptly.
• Assist in maintaining project schedules and milestones.

Quality Control

• Checking Drawings and Model Data as skills allow.
• Ensure compliance with company detailing standards.
• Maintain accuracy and completeness of project documents.
• Support checking and quality assurance processes.
