Position SummaryJost Chemical is seeking a Packaging Crew Leader to join our Packaging team in a GMP-regulated manufacturing environment. This role coordinates Packaging Department resources to simultaneously achieve employee safety, customer quality, room and process compliance, and ship-date requirements, and oversees the daily operation of an assigned Packaging Operator team—including planning, monitoring, and controlling production. This role may substitute for the Packaging Manager during their absence.
Key Responsibilities- Coordinate equipment, packaging rooms, and the assigned team to achieve customer ship dates and maximize pounds packaged per shift.
- Ensure the work area is GMP compliant (cleanliness, organization) during all operations, and that exposed product is always handled in controlled areas.
- Ensure the quality of product packaged by the assigned team, including package appearance, package weight, in-process testing, labeling, and other batch record requirements.
- Monitor and address quality issues, re-work, and repackaging needs.
- Assist in hiring, continuous training, and performance evaluation.
- Monitor employees and report on issues including safety, quality, attendance, and counseling of the assigned team to the Manager.
- Perform duties associated with the Packaging Operator role as needed.
- Coordinate maintenance work during the assigned shift and follow up on repairs.
- Ensure adherence to safety rules, policies, procedures, and PPE use.
- Ensure proper clean-out of equipment and rooms between products, and audit-ready plant cleanliness at all times.
- Monitor equipment functionality and communicate timely repair needs to maintenance.
- Maintain the Daily Packaging Room Check List.
- Review labeling, batch records, and all record-keeping maintained by packagers.
- Implement and develop packaging improvements to improve profitability, such as improving yields and reducing supply usage.
- Operate a hand truck or forklift.
- Lead and oversee employees on shift to ensure production efficiency, quality, and safety, reporting any manufacturing or quality issues.
- High school diploma or GED.
- 1 year of Packaging Operator experience at Jost Chemical.
- Demonstrated lead experience in a manufacturing setting is required.
- Proven, high-level operational and technical troubleshooting ability is required.
- Broad-level knowledge of mathematics and English comprehension.
- Broad-level knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing effective manufacture and distribution of goods.
- Broad-level knowledge of safety, health, and environmental rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
- This is a non-exempt (FLSA) position.
- Management of material resources.

- Ability to communicate effectively with peers, the team, and other areas such as Quality and Safety.

- Ability to work in extreme cold and hot (120°F) environments.
- Ability to lift 55 pounds and drive a fork truck in a safe and efficient manner.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment physical with drug screen and physical capabilities test.
