Walter’s Walk is committed to providing awareness in the community for counseling services to all who are in need regardless of their ability to pay. Walter’s Walk provides counseling services to Veterans, First Responders and their families. In 2010, Dr. Jean Moretto, founder and Executive Director, recognized the need for counseling services due to an alarming number of individuals and families seeing counseling for a wide range of issues, including trauma, depression, and grief.
The goal in improving the well-being of those in the community became even more urgent when Dr. Moretto realized the rise in barriers associated with accessing mental health treatment, including unemployment and lack of health care coverage. Since inception, Walter’s Walk has provided services to over 4500 clients and provided more than 31,650 hours of service to them.
Walter’s Walk plays an integral role in relieving psychological distress in communities who experience poverty, high unemployment, and lack of healthcare coverage by providing mental health treatment all seeking services. The Engagement & Data Management VISTA member will build the capacity of Walter’s Walk by developing community partnerships, updating media platforms and completing grants to provide sustainable funding to assure those in the community unable to pay for counseling for issues with depression, trauma and anxiety will continue to receive services.
This will support 150 low‑income individuals throughout North County, St. Louis.
