Introduction
Established in 1951, IOM is a Related Organization of the United Nations and the leading UN agency in the field of migration. Working closely with governmental, intergovernmental and non-governmental partners, IOM promotes humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all. It saves lives and protects people on the move, drives solutions to displacement, and facilitates pathways for regular migration, while providing services and advice to governments and migrants.
IOM is committed to fostering a respectful, inclusive and supportive workplace where all employees can thrive professionally and feel valued. By creating such an environment, IOM aims to better harness the full potential of migration and strengthen its support to people on the move.
IOM invites candidates from diverse backgrounds to apply and provides reasonable accommodation throughout the recruitment process when required.
Organizational Context and ScopeIOM has been working in Lao People’s Democratic Republic (PDR) since 2002. Current thematic priorities in the country include assistance for vulnerable migrants including victims of trafficking, capacity development for government counterparts, skills development of migrants, returnees and aspirant migrants, ethical recruitment and poverty reduction activities.
Under the overall supervision of the National Project Officer and direct supervision of the Senior Project Assistant, the Field Project Coordinator plays a central role in implementing IOM activities at the provincial and community levels.
The position requires frequent field travel and direct engagement with provincial line ministries, district authorities, village leaders, community volunteers, and project beneficiaries. The Field Project Coordinator ensures that project interventions are effectively delivered, contextually adapted, and responsive to the needs of vulnerable populations, including women, children, internal migrants, cross‑border migrants, and returned Lao nationals. This role is essential in bridging the work between IOM Lao PDR in Vientiane and communities across the provinces (Oudomxay Province), ensuring that project objectives are met and that IOM maintains effective, trusted partnerships at the grassroots level.
