We're growing our North Hollywood / San Fernando Valley fundraising team and hiring outgoing, thoughtful people to represent leading international human rights and humanitarian organizations.

You'll work face-to-face with members of the public, explain important nonprofit campaigns, and inspire people to support that work by becoming monthly donors.

This role can be a great fit for students, recent graduates, performers, creatives, hospitality workers, organizers, advocates, and other strong communicators looking for stable hourly income while doing work that has a real-world impact.

No fundraising experience is required. We provide paid training and ongoing coaching.

Public Outreach believes strongly in developing people from within. Many of our field leaders started as fundraisers and learned the work from the ground up.

Most of our current North Hollywood openings are on our street fundraising team.

You'll meet with your team in North Hollywood and travel together to rotating outreach locations throughout the San Fernando Valley and, when needed, other parts of greater Los Angeles.

A typical day involves:

• Starting conversations with people you have never met
• Learning the nonprofit campaign you are representing
• Explaining complex social and humanitarian issues in a clear, engaging way
• Listening, answering questions, and building genuine rapport
• Asking people directly to support the organization through a recurring monthly donation
• Working alongside a fundraising partner and supportive field team
• Practicing your approach and applying regular coaching
• Working toward clear fundraising goals

Some candidates may also be considered for door-to-door fundraising depending on campaign needs, availability, and team fit.

We will explain your team and fundraising format before placement. If another LA opportunity looks like a better match, we'll discuss it with you first.

Depending on your campaign, conversations may involve issues such as:

• Migrants' and refugees' rights
• LGBTQIA+ and trans rights
• Human rights and access to due process
• Racial and social justice
• Emergency food, water, shelter, and medical assistance
• Communities affected by conflict and displacement
• Natural disasters and humanitarian emergencies
• Long-term community development and poverty reduction

These are sometimes personal, complex, or politically charged conversations.

You do not need a political science degree or previous activism experience. You do need to be genuinely comfortable learning about these issues, discussing them respectfully, and representing the nonprofit’s campaign accurately.

If you're interested in human rights, humanitarian aid, advocacy, nonprofit work, public policy, social impact, or community organizing, there is a lot here to learn.

You will spend a full 7-hour shift outside, standing and walking, approaching members of the public, and starting conversations throughout the day.

Some people will be excited to speak with you.

Some will ignore you.

Some will say no.

Successful fundraisers learn not to take rejection personally. They reset, try again, listen to coaching, and keep their energy up.

And while your $20/hour starting wage is guaranteed
, fundraising performance still matters.

This is a goals-based, performance-evaluated role
. You'll receive training and support, but you'll also be expected to work toward clear fundraising goals, apply feedback, remain reliable, and show progress.
