The Nurse Manager Med Surg reports to a Director within the Medical‑Surgical/Telemetry service line or the Chief Nursing Officer, depending on organizational structure. This Nurse Manager Med Surg leads Charge Nurse Medical Surgical staff, Med Surg Assistant Manager or Medical Surgical Assistant Manager support, and a dedicated team of Med/Surg RN, RN Medical Surgical, and ancillary professionals. The Nurse Manager Med Surg collaborates closely with Hospitalists, Case Management, Respiratory Therapy, Therapy Services, Pharmacy, Quality, and Education teams to ensure safe, efficient patient flow and excellent outcomes.
The Nurse Manager Med Surg oversees a fast‑paced Medical‑Surgical/Telemetry unit caring for diverse adult patient populations. Supported by engaged physicians, experienced Registered Nurse Medical Surgical staff, and skilled technicians, the Nurse Manager Med Surg fosters a supportive and professional unit culture. This Nurse Manager Med Surg role plays a central part in multidisciplinary coordination, patient safety initiatives, and throughput optimization.
The Nurse Manager Med Surg is responsible for clinical leadership including mentoring, staff development, competency validation, and continuous quality improvement for RN Medical Surgical and Charge Nurse General Med/Surg teams. Administrative responsibilities include staffing, scheduling, budgeting, daily operations, and physician collaboration. This Nurse Manager Med Surg role requires a current California RN license, a bachelor’s degree (master’s degree preferred), a minimum of two years of recent department‑specific Medical‑Surgical or Telemetry experience, and prior charge nurse or supervisory expertise within a medical‑surgical setting.
