Job Summary
Night shift RN Clinical Nurse for a 28‑bed Medical‑Surgical unit focused on post‑surgical patients, with overflow to general Med‑Surg and telemetry. Full‑time 7 p–7 a shift. Enhanced sign‑on bonus eligible (up to $20,000 for RN’s with one year or more experience). Magnet‑designated campus, Leapfrog safety and Prism med‑surg awards. New grads may apply for the Nurse Residency program. RN Clinical Nurses are proactive members of interdisciplinary teams, licensed under the Georgia Professional Nurse Practice Act, and uphold the scopes, codes and ethical standards of the American Nurses Association.
The position is supported by the Wellstar Shared Governance Model.
- Perform the nursing process—assessment, diagnosis, outcomes, planning, implementation, evaluation—using evidence‑based practice, critical thinking and individualized care coordination.
- Provide relationship‑based, patient‑centered care aligned with population characteristics and cultural diversity.
- Partner with patients and significant others to set goals, conduct bedside shift reports, interdisciplinary rounds, just‑in‑time and planned patient teaching, and keep care plans patient‑goal focused.
- Practice in accordance with current clinical practice standards.
- Coordinate and document safe, high‑quality patient care, promote respectful, inclusive clinical environments and efficient documentation.
- Demonstrate teamwork and collaboration, fostering fiscal responsibility and supporting recruitment and retention of all healthcare team members.
- Participate in performance improvement, research, and shared governance initiatives at all system levels.
- Complete all initial and ongoing professional competency assessments, mandatory education and population‑specific education.
- Serve as preceptor/mentor to professional nurses, staff and students, modeling professional practice and contributing to workforce development.
- Promote evidence‑based practice, nursing research and performance improvement; collect data, pose clinical questions, consult experts and use evidence to address practice questions.
- Maintain compliance with all Wellstar policies, safety goals, and professional standards, including TJC Patient Safety Goals and Wellstar safety absolutes.
- Plan for patient care across the continuum, develop protocols and procedures to achieve best practice outcomes (e.g., reduce readmissions, avoidable days, adverse events).
- Support efficient and effective use of human and material resources.
- Perform other duties as assigned and comply with all Wellstar Health System policies, standards of work and code of conduct.
Minimum Education
- Associate Nursing or Diploma (Nurse) Nursing;
Bachelor Nursing preferred.
- RN – Registered Nurse (single state) or RN‑COMPACT (multi‑state compact).
- BLS, ARC‑BLS or BLS‑I (Basic Life Support or Instructor).
- All certifications are required upon hire unless otherwise stated.
- Minimum five years of RN experience; direct patient care experience preferred.
- Read, write and speak English fluently; utilize technology and basic computer skills to support clinical care.
- Strong interpersonal, collaborative and customer‑service skills.
- Ability to function in a fast‑paced environment, respond to emergencies decisively and respectfully.
- Excellent time‑management and evidence‑based, analytical, critical‑thinking skills.
All RN Clinical Nurses must be licensed under the Georgia Professional Nurse Practice Act, uphold the Scope of Practice and Code of Ethics Standards of the American Nurses Association, and align with the Wellstar Professional Practice Model, Wellstar Values, and the Wellstar Shared Governance System. They maintain the patient voice, adhere to system policies and procedures, and support service excellence goals.
