Assistant Director of Nurses Registered Nurse (RN) POSITION

DESCRIPTION:

Assistant Director of Nurses (RN) is a licensed professional nurse immediately under the Director of Nurses. The Assistant Director of Nurses assists the Director as instructed and has the authority to carry out given tasks or supervise areas of responsibility in the Director’s absence.

Qualifications
  • Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing or an approved RN program.
  • Current nursing licensure as a nurse in the State of practice; a Registered Nurse license is preferred.
  • Minimum of two years of supervisory experience.
  • Good mental and physical health.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability and capability to work effectively with all levels of personnel.
  • Effective communication in English, both spoken and written.
  • Administrative ability with evidence of professional competence and flexibility.
  • Working knowledge of federal, state, and county laws governing skilled care nursing facilities.
General Duties and Responsibilities GENERAL
  • Assist the Director of Nurses in personnel, orientation, supervision, and staffing.
  • Periodically check residents’ records and reports.
  • Keep the Director informed of potential problems or problem areas within the nursing department with accurate reporting.
  • Review physician orders, transfer and admission information for completeness.
  • Review transcriptions of physician orders to resident charts, with medication and treatment sheets, to ensure accuracy and currency.
  • Assist in admitting, transferring, and discharging residents.
  • Conduct weekly skin assessment rounds with the Treatment Nurse.
  • Prepare the Licensed Nurses’ monthly schedule.
  • Work with consultants as necessary and implement recommended changes directed by the Director of Nurses.
  • Review, update, and revise resident Plans of Care for appropriate resident goals and problems to assure that appropriate nursing care is being rendered.
  • Ensure that nursing personnel follow established infection control and aseptic techniques when isolation procedures become necessary.
  • Review resident charts for completeness and appropriateness of treatment and medication orders.
  • Check completeness and accuracy of intake and output documentation.
  • Review restraint assessments, pain assessments, oral assessments, psychotropic assessments, and bowel and bladder assessments for completeness.
  • Participate in Weight Variance and Pressure Ulcer committee meetings.
  • Attend staff meetings and in-service classes.
  • Review monthly recapped physician orders with medication sheet, one week before the end of each month to ensure accuracy in transcription.
  • Perform other duties as necessary or directed by the Director of Nurses or the Administrator.
SUPERVISION
  • Be alert to efficient functioning of the nursing department with other facility departments.
  • Periodically make nursing rounds.
  • Ensure nursing personnel provide adequate care in accordance with established nursing service procedures.
  • Follow up on correction of findings and deficiencies of Department of Health Services, Consultants, and Quality Assurance Team.
  • Review and evaluate nursing personnel and make recommendations to the Director of Nurses.
  • Assist in orienting newly assigned personnel as well as supervise and instruct other nursing personnel.
  • Assist in supervision and direction of nursing personnel.
  • Assist in investigation of unusual occurrences or alleged abuse and promptly notify the Director of Nurses.
CONSUMER SERVICE
  • Presents a professional image to consumers through dress, behavior, and speech.
  • Adheres to company standards for resolving consumer concerns.
  • Ensures that all resident rights are protected.
