Registered Nurse; RN - First Assist

Overview

Registered Nurse (RN) First Assist – Senior – Ongoing staff position in an outpatient surgery center. The RNFA works as a first assistant to surgeons, providing direct patient care in the operating room and collaborating with the perioperative team.

• Delivers intraoperative patient care as the first assistant to the surgeon(s) as a collaborative team member.
• Pre‑operatively performs a focused nursing assessment related to the planned procedure and analyzes assessment data to determine nursing diagnosis.
• Identifies and communicates desired patient outcomes throughout the perioperative continuum.
• Monitors patients’ response and modifies plan of care accordingly.
• Administers medications according to standard nursing practice and manages an individual plan of care that directs RNFA interventions.
• Implements, manages, and coordinates the perioperative plan of care related to RNFA interventions and evaluates patient progress toward attaining outcomes.
• Supports professional development and lifelong learning, seeking out learning opportunities and evaluating practice against current professional standards.
• Integrates knowledge, skills, and experiences to meet the needs of patients and families, providing education and incorporating research findings into practice.
• Practices ethically, advocates for perioperative health safety, and provides leadership within the profession and the practice setting.
• Maintains a constant state of alertness and works safely in a safety‑sensitive environment.

• Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing.
• 2‑5 years of RN experience.
• Certified Nurse OR (CNOR) or RN credential.

• 5‑10 years of nursing experience.
• Certified First Assistant certification.
