The Inpatient RN provides direct patient care in accordance with company policies and procedures which includes FMCNA compliance programs and contracted hospitals’ policies and procedures. Areas of practice are diverse, including hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, continuous renal replacement therapies, apheresis, and ultrafiltration. The Inpatient RN will partner with the hospital to provide quality care to the patient and deliver care that provides a positive patient experience.
PrincipalDuties and Responsibilities
- Under limited supervision, apply considerable knowledge to perform a broad range of tasks including direct patient care in multiple modalities.
- Provide supervision and direction of Patient Care Technicians and clerical staff; provide direction and education to ICU staff for CRRT.
- Responsible for direct patient care of assigned patients in the Inpatient Renal Replacement and Apheresis Services setting and provide the appropriate treatment technique as prescribed.
- Assess patients’ responses to treatment therapy, making appropriate adjustments and modifications to the treatment plan as indicated by the physician. Communicate problems or concerns to relevant parties.
- Deliver safe, effective care in a timely and efficient manner.
- Give organized, concise shift reports for patients on assigned shifts and manage patient schedules to meet needs of more critical patients.
- Implement, administer, monitor, and document patient’s response to prescribed intradialytic transfusions, notifying physician of adverse reactions.
- Collaborate and communicate with physicians and other healthcare team members to interpret, adjust, and coordinate daily patient care plan.
- Initiate and communicate to FMS facility nursing staff and appropriate hospital personnel as needed.
- Accurately document all treatment information in the patient record (ACES) and the hospital record.
- Clean and disinfect dialysis machine surface, chair, equipment, and surrounding areas between treatments per policies.
- Perform all tasks required for preparation for dialysis treatment and document where appropriate.
- Perform all required pre-treatment dialysis machine alarm testing.
- Initiate Solution Delivery System if applicable.
- Operate related equipment appropriately and safely and provide minor troubleshooting when necessary.
- Understand, conduct, and document dialysis/apheresis machine safety tests, equipment calibration, dialysate testing, machine safety tests, functional testing, and disinfection.
- Complete and document ongoing participation in QAI activities.
- Participate in staff meetings, training, and orientation as scheduled.
- Act as a subject matter expert for dialysis related patient/equipment complications.
- Report all new or unusual incidents, complaints, or problems per adverse event reporting requirements; may be assigned to in-center patient care as needed.
- Review and comply with the Code of Business Conduct and all applicable policies, local, state and federal laws and regulations.
- Assist with various projects as assigned by direct supervisor.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Represent the physical demands and work environment of the essential functions of this job.
- Employees are required to take the Ishihara's Color Blindness test; accommodations may be made.
- Direct patient care, interaction with patients, clinicians, hospital staff, and physicians. The position requires travel between assigned hospitals and facilities, as well as regional meetings and educational events.
- Position requires on‑call rotation including night, day, weekend, and holidays.
- Potential exposure to infectious material and contagious diseases.
- Involves heavy lifting of patients and equipment (up to 200 lbs with assistance); may lift chemical and water solutions up to 30 lbs up to 5 ft.
- Provide supervision and direction of Patient Care Technicians (CCHT) and clerical staff; provide direction and education to ICU staff for CRRT.
- Current appropriate state licensure.
- Maintain acquired knowledge and remain current in nephrology advancements, especially inpatient care.
