The Director of Staff Development (DSD) is to plan, implement, direct and evaluate the educational program of all personnel in the facility based on identified resident needs, staff needs, and County, State and Federal laws and regulations, as applicable. In a facility-based nurse aide training and competency evaluation program, the Director of Staff Development is under the general supervision of a registered nurse and reports to and is responsible for the program to the Director of Nursing.

• Plan, conduct, and supervise comprehensive in-service education and training programs for all employees.

• Ensure timely scheduling and accurate record-keeping of all orientation and in-service attendance.

• Maintain an acceptable standard of nursing practice and professional decorum.

• Evaluate the direct work performance of nursing staff to ensure quality resident care and provide additional instruction in deficient areas.

• Ensure knowledge and implementation of all applicable County, State, and Federal laws and regulations governing long-term care nursing facilities.

• Coordinate the safety program, including initial and ongoing instruction on critical safety protocols.

• Maintains confidentiality of resident and facility information.

• Supports facility administration, the facility's philosophy of care, and the policies and procedures of the facility.

• Communicates clearly and effectively with all facility staff members.

• Demonstrates ability to instruct and supervise direct nursing care to improve standards of nursing.

• Current and Active RN/LVN License:
  Must possess a valid Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) license.

• DSD Certification:
  Required to have a Director of Staff Development (DSD) certification.

• Up-to-date BLS/CPR certification.

• Relevant Nursing
  
  Experience:
  
  A minimum of one year of full-time experience as a licensed nurse providing direct care in a long-term care facility, coupled with one year of experience in planning, implementing, and evaluating nursing education programs. Alternatively, two years of full-time licensed nursing experience, with at least one year in direct long-term resident care.

• Continuing Education in Nursing
  
  Education:
  
  Within six months of employment and prior to teaching a certification program, obtain a minimum of 24 hours of continuing education in planning, implementing, and evaluating nursing education programs.

• Strong Communication
  
  Skills:
  
  Demonstrated ability to read, analyze, and interpret scientific/technical information, communicate effectively in English both verbally and in writing, and possess exceptional customer service and empathetic communication skills with all stakeholders.
