Position PurposeThe purpose of this Veterinary Technician position is to provide excellent veterinary care to our hospital patients and phenomenal customer care to their owners, embodying the mission and values of Vetco Total Care.
Essential Job Functions- Greet clients and patients arriving for appointments or walk-ins, escort into an exam room, obtain weight and vital signs, record in the electronic medical record, and begin documentation of the patient visit.
- Assist veterinarian with routine and emergency appointments, surgery, dentistry, and euthanasia under direct supervision.
- Perform patient restraint, obtain and process laboratory samples, handle and dispense medications, and maintain the electronic medical record.
- Schedule appointments, communicate with clients, relay test results, maintain inventory, and manage accounts receivable.
- Prepare patients for surgical and dental procedures, support induction and monitoring of anesthetized patients, monitor during recovery, and prepare them for discharge.
- Provide in-hospital treatments for sick patients, including injections, oral medications, intravenous therapies, and ensure patients are cared for during recovery.
- Participate in training new staff members and disseminate knowledge as required.
- Maintain a clean and orderly hospital environment following a pre‑determined maintenance schedule.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- Provide backup phone and front desk support as needed.
All activities are performed under direct supervision of the veterinarians, the Hospital Office Manager, or the Hospital Leader on Duty.
Education and Experience- College or college‑equivalent education (completed) to become a Credentialed Veterinary Technician in the state in which the hospital is located.
- At least 1 year of previous experience as a Veterinary Technician or working in a veterinary practice.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Compassionate, professional demeanor during emotional and stressful situations.
- Telephone and computer skills.
- Team player willing to learn new techniques and treatments, offer creative ideas, and accept change.
The majority of duties are conducted in the full‑service hospital, requiring bending, kneeling, lifting (up to 30 pounds), and standing for long periods while interacting directly with clients and pets.
