Job OverviewThe City of Des Peres, MO (Pop 9,193) located in St. Louis County is seeking an individual to serve as a Street Maintenance Worker. Under the supervision of the Street Superintendent and Street Foreman, this position performs skilled and semi‑skilled manual work and equipment operation in maintaining city streets, sidewalks, street trees, public grounds and facilities.
Street Maintenance Workers are part of the Streets Division within the Department of Public Works. This team is responsible for performing a variety of tasks related to the maintenance and improvement of city trees, streets, sidewalks, bridges, and public rights‑of‑way. Works as part of a team to ensure safe and well‑maintained public infrastructure, including seasonal operations like snow removal and storm clean‑up.
Salary and BenefitsSalary Range $54,963 - $76,949 with starting salary up to $61,245 (depending on qualifications and experience) plus an excellent benefit package. This is a non‑exempt position, so the employee is eligible for overtime pay, particularly during times of inclement weather.
QualificationsMust possess a valid Missouri CDL Driver’s license or the ability to obtain one within six months. Must be able to operate motorized equipment such as pickups, dump trucks, and skid‑steers. Good driving record to be maintained during period of employment. Primary responsibilities will consist of physical/manual labor outdoors in varied weather conditions, performing tasks such as asphalt and concrete repair, snow removal, and forestry work.
This position requires the ability to speak effectively and interact with the general public, and to communicate both oral and written instructions to work crews. The preferred candidate would have a minimum 3 years of experience in street maintenance and/or public works operations, but candidates with less experience will also be considered.
STREET MAINTENANCE WORKER functionsinclude but are not limited to the following.
Street and Sidewalk Maintenance- Perform asphalt and concrete repair and replacement, including crack sealing and patching. Assist in maintaining and improving sidewalks to ensure public safety and accessibility.
- Work as part of a crew to remove and trim trees and brush along public rights‑of‑way. Assist with storm clean‑up and brush removal to maintain clear and safe areas.
- Participate in city snow removal efforts, including salting, plowing, and shoveling. Operate snow removal equipment and assist in ensuring roads remain passable during winter weather.
- Perform general maintenance on street department equipment, including trucks, spreaders, and plows. Maintain public properties through occasional grass cutting, brush clearing, and signage installation and maintenance.
- Safely operate hand and power tools, as well as light and heavy motorized equipment such as trucks, rollers, and tractors. Follow written or oral instructions to complete routine or repetitive tasks efficiently. Adhere to safety practices and guidelines, including protocols and departmental policies.
The individual in this role is expected to contribute to the team's efforts by completing other related tasks as needed.
