Position

Purpose

The Veterinarian is responsible for safeguarding the health and welfare of turkeys across Select Genetics operations by delivering high‑quality veterinary care, diagnostics, and preventative health programs. This role partners closely with breeder operations, research teams, and affiliated companies to support animal wellbeing, biosecurity, productivity, and continuous improvement.

Animal Health & Biosecurity
  • Maintain and continuously improve preventative health, biosecurity, and animal welfare programs.
  • Follow and enforce all company policies related to biosecurity, animal welfare, safety, and regulatory compliance.
  • Serve as the on‑site veterinary point of contact for internal and external customers, providing timely, professional, and proactive support.
Veterinary Services & Operations Support
  • Assist Breeder Operations Managers by delivering superior veterinary and diagnostic laboratory services.
  • Prepare biological samples for testing and analysis and interpret results to support sound decision‑making.
  • Collaborate with affiliated companies to develop and refine products, procedures, and practices that enhance efficiency and profitability.
Research & Continuous Improvement
  • Design, participate in, and oversee applied research trials in both production environments and controlled research settings.
  • Prepare data summaries, reports, and analyses—including charts and graphs—to document research findings and outcomes.
  • Use logic and critical thinking to evaluate data, identify alternative solutions, and recommend improvements.
Training & Communication
  • Train and coach employees on technical practices, protocols, and animal health standards.
  • Communicate complex technical and health‑related information clearly, both verbally and in writing.
  • Foster strong working relationships by providing superior internal and external customer service.
Work Environment & Teamwork
  • Work collaboratively in a team‑based environment and support other functions as needed to achieve positive results.
  • Organize and prioritize responsibilities to ensure efficient operations and effective time management.
  • Maintain a safe, compliant, and productive work environment.
Physical & Environmental Requirements
  • Perform duties that require constant movement and frequent use of hands.
  • Ability to push, bend, stoop, squat, pull, and lift 50 lbs. or more.
  • Work in environments that may include dust, cold, heat, humidity, chemicals, and fumes.
  • Ability to work extended hours as business needs require.
  • Demonstrated passion for working with live animals.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the direct supervisor.
Requirements
  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree from an AVMA‑accredited college.
  • Eligible for veterinary licensure in multiple states.
  • Prior poultry industry experience preferred.
  • Strong time management, organizational, and multitasking skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Valid Driver’s License with an acceptable motor vehicle driving record.
  • Ability to travel up to 25% of the time.
  • Successful completion of a criminal background check.
  • Bilingual Spanish proficiency is a plus.
