Job Summary

The Golf Course Spray Technician is responsible for the safe and accurate application of pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, and fertilizers to maintain high‑quality turf conditions. This position requires a valid Michigan Pesticide Applicator License and strict adherence to state regulations, label requirements, and environmental best practices. The Spray Technician works closely with the Superintendent and Grounds team to ensure optimal course conditions and player safety.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Mix, load, and apply pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, and fertilizers in accordance with Michigan Department of Agriculture & Rural Development (MDARD) regulations and product labels
  • Operate and maintain spray equipment, including sprayers, spreaders, and support vehicles
  • Calibrate spray equipment to ensure accurate and efficient chemical applications
  • Maintain detailed and accurate chemical application records as required by Michigan law
  • Follow all safety protocols, PPE requirements, and environmental guidelines
  • Monitor turf conditions, pests, weeds, and disease activity and report findings to management
  • Properly store, handle, and dispose of chemicals in compliance with state and federal regulations
  • Assist with general golf course maintenance tasks as needed (mowing, course setup, aeration, etc.)
  • Participate in continuing education to maintain applicator license
Qualifications
  • Valid Michigan Pesticide Applicator License (Commercial or Registered Applicator) required
  • Knowledge of turfgrass pests, diseases, and weed identification
  • Experience operating turf spray equipment preferred
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety and environmental stewardship
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions precisely
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Valid driver’s license required
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
Schedule
  • Early mornings, weekends, and holidays as required
  • Ability to safely handle chemicals while wearing required PPE
