Beyond Housing is a nationally recognized community development organization that works to strengthen families and transform under-resourced communities to create a stronger, more prosperous St. Louis region for all.

Our comprehensive model is built on the understanding that strengthening families and transforming under-resourced communities isn’t simple — it’s complex and requires a comprehensive, multi-pronged effort.

Over the years, we have created the infrastructure of staff, partners, programs, and relationships that is essential to fulfilling our comprehensive model to create a stronger St. Louis — once and for all.

Our work brings civic leaders, targeted nonprofits, corporate partners, and residents together to create meaningful and lasting change. It is focused in the 24:1 Community — a community comprised of multiple municipalities within the Normandy Schools footprint in North St. Louis County.

Position Summary:

The Native Stewardship Technicians are essential to the effective and efficient operation of the collaborative community forestry program within the 24:1 Initiative. Beyond Housing is currently looking for a Native Stewardship Technician to work closely with our Native Stewardship Lead, Forestry & Community Conservation (FCC) Director and Program Manager, and twenty-two small communities in the north St. Louis area to improve the health of community forests and native areas, and increase citizen knowledge, understanding, and participation in the management of Missouri’s urban and community forests and native landscaping.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Perform natural area and landscape site preparations, including the removal of invasive plants using both hand and power tools, and pesticide applications.

Conduct routine care for young trees, including watering, mulching, weed control, and pruning.

Promote awareness and participation in FCC programs through community outreach activities.

Participate in weekend community volunteer events such as trash cleanups, tree planting, native planting, and similar activities.

Participate in job training and regional workshops related to native landscaping, tree care, and other conservation activities, as well as professional development.

Display a growing aptitude for native plant landscaping, landscape maintenance techniques, safe pesticide use, and other topics associated with this work.

Other duties as required.
