Job Responsibilities

  • Support the DRS Quality mission statement: “Establish a culture of innovation within DRS Quality teams, championing the deployment of superior processes in lieu of traditional inspection activities and ensuring the delivery of continuously improving value and compliance to our customers and business units”
  • Lead Quality internal communication programs and processes to ensure both management's and company's awareness of compliance issues, activities, and federal, state, and local regulatory activities that affect technical and quality compliance
  • Lead APEX opportunities across the Quality function and LOB. Driving improvements in processes (e.g.: trending and tracking of errors, inspection findings, and internal audit results) to review and analyze data to determine if modifications or additions to the current QA program are necessary and creates recommendations to ensure organizational compliance.
  • Identify systematic problems and coordinate corrective actions, systems or process changes that will resolve problems and improve operations. Bring all compliance issues to the attention of management. Advise the VP/GM and the responsible head of the company's compliance status and system wide implications of any findings.
  • Provide quality leadership to direct reports peers and superiors in support of the DRS mission. Quality management position; may report to the top executive.
  • Staff, train, equip, and direct the activities of quality assurance personnel including quality engineers, inspectors, and auditors.
  • Identify and justify capital equipment and/or technology improvements.
  • Maintain, execute, and improve the quality management system using departmental and company resources.
  • Review status of quality management system, developing and implementing actions to improve. Report on the results of these actions.
  • Manage all ERP related quality systems/modules. Use data to drive improvement through disciplined metrics management and team projects.
  • Perform direct coordination with customer and suppliers during early planning phases of development and production programs.
  • Plan and conduct internal company audits, including management of corrective action process.
  • Manage direct and indirect budgets and department expenses. Recommend and/or approve all salary and staffing changes within department.
  • Develop and review quality assurance cost estimates in support of proposal efforts.
  • May specialize in distinct Quality functions such as Supplier Quality, but ideally will prove competency in all Quality functions.
  • Support, communicate, reinforce and defend the mission values and culture of the organization.
  • Assist in the development and approval of the Standard Operating procedures (SOP).
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent experience in a related technical field with a minimum of 7 years of experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, communication and writing skills.
  • Ability to lead effective corrective action using disciplined problem solving methods and statistical analysis.
  • In-depth knowledge of ISO  Standards.
  • ISO Lead Auditor experience desired; certification preferred Six Sigma Black Belt certification desired.
  • ASQ certification desired.
