What To Expect

Tesla is accelerating the world's transition to sustainable energy, and our Energy business is at the forefront of this effort. We are seeking an experienced Quality Engineer to oversee the manufacturing of large stationary battery products, ensuring that both products and the manufacturing processes meet the highest standards of safety, reliability, and quality. The focus is on a built‑right‑first‑time, zero‑defect mindset, with strong emphasis on continuous improvement so that every product that leaves our factory meets our exceptional standards.

As a key player in our mission to deliver exceptional energy storage solutions, you will collaborate with multiple engineering groups, manufacturing areas, and product teams to exceed customer expectations and establish world‑class quality processes.

Our goal is to create seamless, efficient, and reliable operations that prioritize customer satisfaction, safety, and sustainability while driving business growth and profitability.

What You’ll Do
  • Accountable for the quality of incoming components and quality controls and assurance in production processes, and driving continuous improvement.
  • Responsible for solving complex technical challenges that impact internal and external customers by leading problem‑solving processes using methodologies such as 8D, Lean Six Sigma, and Shainin.
  • Lead cross‑functional teams to safeguard and improve product and component quality, including risk assessment, containment actions, in‑depth root cause analysis, experiments, and executing corrective and preventative actions with lessons learned for future products.
  • Lead cross‑functional teams to achieve and improve internal and external customer satisfaction, field reliability, nonconformities, scrap, and first‑pass yield, as well as other relevant objectives and key results.
  • Lead Advanced Product Quality Planning for new programs, including development of quality critical product, component, and process requirements and characteristics, along with supplier qualification.
  • Drive Design and Process Failure Mode Effect Analysis (FMEA) to identify risks and implement appropriate actions to mitigate these risks together with cross‑functional teams, proactively continuing improvement of current controls.
  • Identify and deploy critical product/subassemblies/components and manufacturing requirements to meet customer and production needs, including supplier development.
  • Develop, validate, implement and consistently improve effective quality controls across production lines in coordination with Design, Production, Operations, Controls, and Maintenance teams.
  • Participate in program and project design change management reviews to ensure product subsystem quality and reliability requirements are met, including analysis, trials, and validation.
  • Assist development with dimensional analysis, statistical tolerancing, and other methods to investigate the effects of part and process variability on system performance and manufacturability, including process capability analyses to improve supplier and production processes’ ability to meet defined specifications and quality standards.
What You’ll Bring
  • Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical, Materials, or Industrial Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a manufacturing environment and in a Quality Engineering function.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience with electro‑mechanical assemblies or battery module manufacturing (preferred).
  • Quality Engineering expertise, including ASQ certification, Certified Quality Engineer, Certified Six Sigma Green/Black Belt, Certified Quality Auditor or Certified Manager of Quality (preferred).
  • Exceptional problem‑solving skills with expertise in 8D, Lean Six Sigma, and Shainin methodologies; relevant certification is a plus.
  • Specific training in and fundamental understanding of Automotive Core Tools (8D, FMEA, Control Plan, SPC, Capacities Study, MSA, APQP, PPAP, DOE, and hypothesis testing), with demonstrated success in applying them.
