Job Summary

WSP's Cultural Resources Management Team is seeking On‑Call Field Archaeologists for a long‑term Phase III archaeological data recovery project at five multicomponent Pre‑Contact sites located in close proximity to one another. The role is an hourly, on‑call position with competitive pay based on North American CRM and regional archaeological experience.

Location & Travel

Ideal candidates are local to Arkansas, Missouri, eastern Oklahoma, and eastern Kansas. Travel to sites within these states is required; the role may also involve Phase I and II work in other locations as needed.

Responsibilities
  • Assist with multiple Phase III data‑recovery projects, and support Phase I and II work as needed.
  • Perform archaeological test unit and shovel test excavations.
  • Excavate and recover cultural features and artifacts.
  • Identify, recover, and record artifacts and other materials, using standard field forms to record numerical data, Munsell soil color, soil textures, and other relevant information.
  • Collaborate effectively with team members.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision‑making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct, adhering to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies.
  • Strictly follow WSP’s health, safety, drug/alcohol, and harassment policies.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Undergraduate degree in anthropology, archaeology, or a closely related field.
  • Archaeological field school or comparable field experience.
  • Self‑motivated, physically capable of performing fieldwork in all weather conditions, and able to follow instructions.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior experience with Pre‑Contact archaeological sites in Arkansas, eastern Oklahoma, or the surrounding region.
  • Pre‑Contact lithic artifact identification and analysis.
