Job Summary

We are seeking a curious, self-driven, and collaborative individual to join a dynamic team dedicated to advancing microbial gene discovery. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research initiatives focused on microbial strain isolation, culturing, testing, genomics, and metagenomics. The ideal candidate brings a strong foundation in microbiology or a related field, thrives in a fast-paced laboratory environment, and is passionate about developing and improving scientific methods that support business-critical gene discovery activities.

Whether filled at the Laboratory Specialist or Scientist level, this position plays a vital role in driving innovation and delivering meaningful scientific contributions within a highly collaborative team setting.

Responsibilities
  • Perform microbial strain isolation, culturing, and testing
  • Conduct DNA extraction from diverse samples, including microbial cultures and environmental samples
  • Prepare specialized microbiological media
  • Implement improvements to laboratory processes, including automation
  • Participate in the development of novel methods for targeted microbial isolation and testing
  • Maintain accurate laboratory records in an electronic lab notebook
  • Present findings at group and departmental meetings
Skills
  • Proficiency in general microbiology and molecular biology techniques
  • Experience working in a BSL-2 lab environment (highly preferred)
  • Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills
  • Collaborative attitude with the ability to work effectively in a team setting
  • Experience with automation (preferred)
  • Knowledge of microfluidics (preferred)
  • Familiarity with microscopy techniques (preferred)
  • Proficiency in bioinformatics (preferred)
Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science or Master of Science degree in Microbiology (preferred), Molecular Biology, Biology, or a related field
  • A minimum of two to three years of laboratory experience, preferably in an industry setting
