Research Data Specialist I – Hybrid Telework
Salary: $6,955.00–$8,706.00 per month. Job Type: 12 Month Limited Term – Full Time.

Under the general direction of the Research Data Supervisor in the Data Evaluation & Innovation Branch, within the Research Evaluation & Data Insights Division, the Research Data Specialist will work independently and provide expert guidance on specialized and complex projects involving intense investigation into Department of State Hospitals (DSH) data. The incumbent will function as the Subject Matter Expert on the re‑evaluation services program and other DSH program data and will be lead on data tracking.
Responsibilities include developing and refining methodologies for data collection, data cleaning, and ongoing reconciliation for reports issued on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis; conducting research involving patient‑level data and preparing formal reports and presentations to management; and collaborating and coordinating regularly with executive management, DSH facility staff, and Sacramento‑based staff.
This function requires advanced use of Microsoft Excel, Power BI, Visio, Word, and intermediate to advanced use of Tableau.
Working Conditions- DSH–Sacramento is located in an 11‑floor high‑rise building.
- This position reports to the Allenby Building in Sacramento. A hybrid telework schedule, consistent with the State of California's in‑office requirement, may be considered with prior approval from management. The incumbent may also be required to travel throughout California as needed, with prior notice.
- Independence of action and the ability to manage time and multiple priorities is required. Minimal travel (5%) may be required. The position will require a background check via Cal DOJ Live Scan. Use of technology, including but not limited to Microsoft Office, Microsoft Teams, Web Ex, Zoom and other virtual platforms, is required.
