Job Description
Technical expert that will, under supervision, develop and execute in vivo models, as well as perform a range of cell and tissue-based in vitro assays to support the development and differentiation of implantable biomaterials in support of Allergan Aesthetics Medical Device franchises. Techniques employed will include intradermal and subcutaneous injection in small or large animals, 3D imaging, histology, microscopy, as well as common practices in cell and molecular biology, such as cell culture, PCR, and ELISA.
Proficiency in in vivo animal handling and care, as well as overall laboratory techniques in a BSL 2 environment is essential. The incumbent should innovate and implement new experimental protocols, demonstrate mastery of a broad range of experimental techniques, and appropriately document experimental findings. Additional day‑to‑day activities may include statistical analysis, staying current in therapeutic areas, and lab support activities including procurement and general organization.
Compliance with Abb Vie internal requirements and regulatory requirements (21 CFR 820, ISO 13485, ISO 14971) is mandatory. The role includes: 60% develop and execute in vivo and in vitro assays; 30% analyze and interpret results including documentation; 10% innovate and implement new protocols.
QualificationsEducation and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Bioengineering, Chemistry or related field plus 5 years post‑graduate industry experience OR Master’s with at least 2 years equivalent experience.
- Experience with animal and tissue studies, including in vivo animal handling/surgeries.
- Experience with various cell and molecular biology techniques.
- Experience with skin biology and/or ex vivo skin models desirable.

- Conduct and interpret scientific experiments, including design of new assays and prototypes.
- Critical thinking and problem‑solving with data analysis and presentation.
- Self‑motivated; work independently or as part of a team.
- Knowledge of Good Documentation Practices and accurate lab record‑keeping.
- Troubleshoot experiments and optimize protocols.
- Suggest improvements to laboratory techniques and processes.
- Understanding of statistical principles desirable.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and statistical tools such as Graph Pad Prism; image analysis experience a plus.
- Strong interpersonal, scientific writing, and verbal communication skills.
- Compensation is based on company pay guidelines and may vary by location.
