Tulane University - Postdoctoral Fellow in Community Flood Risk Reduction

The Bywater Institute’s mission isto catalyze thriving climate and water futures through transdisciplinary, collaborative scholarship.

This Postdoctoral Fellow  will work primarily with Dr. Simone Domingue , Research Assistant Professor. Herlabconductsactionableand equity-orientedresearchfor

Gulf Coastcommunitiesexperiencing disruption from environmental change and climate-related disasters.

The Fellow’s primary dutieswillbe collecting and analyzing data on the environmental and social histories of Gulf Coast communities vulnerable toclimate hazards, and they will supportprojectsbringingtogether jurisdictions for regional watershed managementandresilience planning. This includes development of data collection instruments and coding frameworks, coding data, and performing analyses on coded data. Responsibilities also include data storage and management and development of outputs including methods reports, manuscripts for academic journals, presentations, posters, abstracts, and/or other informational materials for research dissemination.

The Fellow will be able to dedicate part of their time to advancing their own research and will have access tothe

By Water Institute ’snetwork of university, institutional, and community partners.

They will be able to pursue professional development opportunities, including engaging in grant-writing and developing collaborative research projects.

Thetwo-year Fellowship may be extended,depending onthe

Fellow’s desire and pursuit ofadditionalfunding.

Required Education And Experience
  • Terminal Degree (Ph.D.)inasocial science, environment-related,orotherfieldwithstrongfocus onsocial dimensions ofhazards
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities/Competencies Typically Needed To  Perform This Job Successfully:
  • Strong research skills (qualitative and/or quantitative methods)
  • Ability toindependentlyimplementdatacollection and analysis, as well astrain and direct others
  • Abilitytoquickly learn new research methods and techniques
  • Excellent time management, interpersonal,written, and communication skills
  • Eagerness to collaborate with others
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Experience with archival research
  • Experience designing informational materials forbroadaudiences(such as, but not limited to, presentations, research briefs, interactive maps, infographics, etc.)
  • Experience working with geospatial data
  • Experience with inclusive facilitation
