General Summary

The Retail Sales Associate is responsible for delivering exceptional customer service while supporting daily retail operations in a firearms and sporting goods environment. This role assists customers with firearms, ammunition, and accessory selection while ensuring compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations.

The Retail Sales Associate serves as a product resource for customers, maintains store presentation and inventory accuracy, and promotes a safe, professional, and welcoming shopping environment. This position requires strong interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to responsible firearm handling and customer education.

Core Responsibilities
  • Provide outstanding customer service by understanding customer needs and recommending appropriate products
  • Assist customers with firearms, ammunition, and accessory selection based on intended use and experience level
  • Answer customer questions regarding product features, specifications, safety, and functionality
  • Complete sales transactions accurately and efficiently
  • Promote related products and accessories through upselling and cross‑selling opportunities
  • Maintain a professional and customer‑focused retail experience
Product Knowledge & Customer Education
  • Maintain working knowledge of firearms, ammunition, optics, accessories, and related sporting goods products
  • Stay current on product updates, promotions, and industry trends
  • Educate customers on safe firearm handling and responsible ownership practices
  • Participate in ongoing product and compliance training programs
Compliance & Safety
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local firearm laws and regulations
  • Follow all company procedures regarding age verification, background checks, and regulated sales documentation
  • Maintain awareness of ATF compliance requirements and store policies
  • Adhere to all firearm safety protocols to maintain a secure environment for customers and staff
Inventory & Store Operations
  • Assist with receiving shipments, stocking shelves, and organizing merchandise
  • Maintain inventory accuracy and notify management of discrepancies or low stock levels
  • Support daily store operations, including merchandising and display organization
  • Keep the sales floor, counters, and common areas clean, organized, and presentable
Team Collaboration & Operational Support
  • Work collaboratively with team members to achieve store sales and customer service goals
  • Support management with special projects, promotions, or operational initiatives
  • Assist with training and onboarding of new team members as needed
  • Maintain professionalism and positive communication with coworkers and customers
Qualifications

Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or GED preferred
  • Previous retail or customer service experience preferred
  • Experience in firearms, sporting goods, or outdoor retail environments preferred
  • Firearms‑related training or certifications considered a plus
Skills and Attributes

Requirements
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must successfully pass a background check, POET, and drug screening
  • Must not be prohibited from owning or possessing firearms
  • Understanding of legal requirements related to firearm sales and transfers
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed
