Functional Analyst

Job Description and Duties

In this role, you would be part of a team that helps improve and support California's statewide financial management system, FI$Cal. You would serve as a subject matter expert, working with state departments to understand their business needs and help design system enhancements that make financial processes work better.

The position requires a solid understanding of California state accounting practices and the government accounting cycle. You would help develop, test, and implement improvements to the FI$Cal system, particularly within the People Soft platform. You would also troubleshoot and resolve system issues when problems occur, ensuring the system continues to operate smoothly for state agencies.

Effective July 1, 2025, the State of California implemented the Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025) which reduces an employee’s monthly salary in exchange for leave credits. Employees appointed to this classification will have their monthly salary reduced and will accrue hours of PLP 2025 on the first day of each pay period in accordance with the applicable bargaining contract. The salary range(s) included on this job posting do not reflect the reduction in pay.

Note that to be listed as appointed for placement in the Accounting Administrator I (Specialist) classification, you must take and pass the examination.

• Solid understanding of California state accounting practices and the government accounting cycle.
• Knowledge of the People Soft platform and ability to develop, test, and implement system enhancements.
• Ability to troubleshoot and resolve system issues to maintain smooth operation of the FI$Cal system.
• Must pass the required state examination for appointment.

Remote‑centered position with the flexibility of telework up to three days per week. In‑office attendance is mandatory on designated days and is subject to change. The office is located at 2000 Evergreen Street, Sacramento, CA. Candidates residing outside of California are welcome to interview, but proof of California residency is required before appointment.

This role requires prolonged sitting in an office‑setting environment with the use of a personal computer. Employees must maintain a workplace free from discrimination and sexual harassment, exhibit regular, consistent attendance, and adhere to all policies and procedures.
