Role

Summary

The main purpose of a Ship Broker is to act as a specialist intermediary/ negotiator between shipowners and charterers to arrange ocean transport of goods and commodities by sea, the employment of a vessel or to buy/sell ships on behalf of a client. We are looking for a Shipbroker to join our Sale & Purchase desk. You will work alongside other Shipbrokers and carry out various tasks as outlined in the description below. The ideal candidate will have some experience within S&P markets and possess strong interpersonal skills, with a driven and self-motivated approach. The ability to work in a fast paced, dynamic broking environment is also required.

What

you will be doing
  • Instigate, arrange and negotiate deals, including relationship building to develop business
  • Daily contact with ship owners and charterers
  • Maintain a database of daily market activities and keep track of vessel positions
  • Negotiate charters to achieve optimum results for clients
  • Provide market insight and trade ideas to clients
  • Build strong rapport with existing clients and develop business with new clients
  • Maintain databases and prepare market information and reports for clients
  • Maintain internal data flow of key market information

Other requirements
  • Previous experience or exposure in Sale & Purchase preferred, with at least 10 years’ relevant experience
  • Prior experience working in a global multinational company (MNC) is advantageous
  • Proven track record of building strong working relationships with clients and develop new business
  • Good commercial judgement with excellent negotiation skills
  • Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written)
  • Fluency in Mandarin and English is essential to liaise with colleagues on desk as well as clients
  • Driven, self-motivated and client-focused
  • An outgoing and confident personality
  • Strong numeracy skills and excellent presentation skills
  • Confident and able to work well under pressure
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Strong MS office skills in Excel, PowerPoint, Word
