Job Description & How to Apply Below

More than 135 years ago, we started with core values that never go out of style: listen, learn and help businesses and individuals reach their goals. These core values shape our culture, and we were recently Great Place to Work Certified because of our outstanding workplace culture and employee experience. As well, our financial strength and stability are key reasons Forbes named us one of the Best 100 Banks in America for the ninth consecutive year.

With more than $16 billion in assets and 135 branch locations throughout Washington, Oregon, Idaho, and California, we understand our role in the economy and take that responsibility seriously. In addition to offering a source of capital to personal banking clients and businesses of all sizes, we place a high importance on employee volunteerism and donate millions of dollars each year to community organizations.

As a Senior Merchant Services Sales Consultant, you'll play a key role in helping businesses find payment processing solutions that support their success while strengthening relationships across our banking teams. This is a highly consultative position where you'll combine sales expertise, merchant services knowledge, and relationship management skills to deliver value for clients and business partners alike.

You’ll serve as a trusted resource for Merchant Services, helping identify new opportunities, support complex client needs, and drive growth through collaboration with branch teams, Commercial Banking Centers, Treasury Management, Business Banking, and other partners.

In this role you'll
  • Develop new merchant services relationships by partnering with branches, Commercial Banking Centers, Treasury Management, Business Banking, Business Client Management, and Commercial Banking teams.
  • Follow up on referrals, identify client needs, present merchant services solutions, and convert opportunities into active merchant accounts.
  • Consult on complex merchant opportunities and ensure accurate merchant onboarding and account setup.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with merchants and internal business partners to support growth and client retention.
  • Provide sales and technical support by explaining products, answering questions, and serving as a resource for merchant services inquiries.
  • Prepare pricing comparisons and recommend pricing strategies for prospective and existing merchant relationships.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve merchant services issues, including escalated and complex client concerns.
  • Assess merchant risk levels and work with internal and external partners to support approval solutions for higher-risk relationships.
  • Maintain expertise in merchant services regulations, policies, procedures, and PCI Compliance requirements.
  • Provide guidance, training, and knowledge sharing to team members and business partners on merchant services products, processes, and best practices.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable policies, security requirements, and government regulations.
What we're looking for
  • You have a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Business, Economics, Law, Computer Science, or a related field (Required).
  • You have 4+ years of dedicated B2B sales, account management, merchant services, or treasury management experience (Required).
  • You understand that an equivalent combination of education and experience can be considered in lieu of a degree.
What helps you shine
  • You bring advanced knowledge of merchant services, financial services, consumer credit cards, or commercial credit card products.
  • Have a strong track record of consultative sales, business development, and relationship management success.
  • Communicate effectively and confidently with clients, business partners, and team members.
  • You excel at prospecting, generating new business opportunities, and advancing sales conversations through phone and email outreach.
  • You are highly organized and demonstrate strong time management, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
  • You are proficient with Microsoft Office products, including Word and Excel.
  • You understand federal and state regulations related to merchant services and payment processing.
  • Enjoy serving as a trusted subject matter expert and sharing knowledge with others.
