Water Quality Technician

STATUS: Full Time/Permanent/Non-Exempt

DEPARTMENT: Environmental (EPA)

REPORTS TO: Environmental Director

SALARY: $ 20.00 - $ 22.00 / hr, DOE

• Take water samples via boat or land and prepare samples for testing
• Keep Water Quality boat clean and operational
• Develop data retrieval and update system for posting to the internet
• Establish and maintain testing lab and support systems
• Maintain and update Quality Assurance Project Plan and sampling plan
• Monitor and update Hydrological Inventory and provide assessment
• Oversee and participate in GIS watershed mapping
• On going Water Shed Assessments
• Complete and submit program workplan and budget applications for funding
• Prioritize restoration activities and supervise restoration workers
• Purchase and maintain testing equipment and office supplies and equipment
• Assist Director in preparation of required reports including narrative and spreadsheet-based water quality monitoring results and other reports as required
• Stay current with CWA requirements
• Participate in second stage development of Tribal Water Standards (developing TAS).
• Other duties as assigned

• Valid Drivers License
• Experience driving a boat
• Preferred: High school diploma/GED
• Preferred: Boater's Safety Certification, or ability to obtain within 90 days.
• Strong mathematical aptitude
• Familiar with computer programs (MS Word and spreadsheets)
• Must have good writing and reporting skills
• Preferred: background/education in the Environmental Sciences areas i.e. air, water, land, wildlife, hydrology, etc.
• Willingness to learn/study environmental issues - Sincere appreciation and concern for environmental issues
• Preferred: Background in supervision and project management preferred.
• Must pass a pre-employment drug test.
