BIOLOGIST DCL

LDWF supports a strong work ethic in its employees and incorporates the use of good science, accurate information and technology. The Office of Wildlife exists to provide wise stewardship of Louisiana's wildlife and associated habitats and increase wildlife conservation awareness.

Biologist DCL-A – Wildlife Diversity Program Botanist. The incumbent may perform up to the advanced journeyman level in the performance of complex tasks as the statewide expert on plant identification and classification; plant association studies; and status, conservation, and restoration of plant species in Louisiana. The incumbent receives broad supervision from a Biologist Supervisor or higher-level manager or administrator. The incumbent may exercise functional supervision over contractors and other non-professional personnel.

This position differs from a Biologist 3, because it serves as the statewide expert on botany and differs from a Biologist Supervisor due to its lack of supervision of a lower-level biologist.

• A bachelor’s degree in a biological science, marine science, environmental science, wildlife or fisheries, animal science, forestry, or natural resources plus four years of experience in wildlife or fisheries, forestry, or environmental science.
• A non‑thesis master’s degree in a biological science, marine science, environmental science, wildlife or fisheries, animal science, forestry, or natural resources plus three years of the required specialized experience.
• A master’s degree with a completed thesis or a doctorate in a biological science, marine science, environmental science, wildlife or fisheries, animal science, forestry, or natural resources plus two years of the required specialized experience.

Duties may include some or all of the following:

• Management of program projects.
• Collection, compilation, and analysis of biotic and abiotic data.
• Ability to exert brief periods of heavy muscular or strenuous physical exertion.
• May be required to operate boats, ATVs, and 4-wheel drive trucks in remote locations.
• Statewide travel and overnight field stays, including early morning departures, are required.

• Appointment Type: Job appointment, probational appointment, promotional, or detail to special duty.

  Qualifications:
  
  Four years of experience working with any of the following: botany, plant ecology, quantitative vegetation studies, at‑risk plant surveys, and/or taxonomic studies of plants.
