NA Canola Biofuels Product Lead

This is a permanent position based out of either Chesterfield, Missouri, Iowa, or anywhere in Canada, preferably close to a Bayer CS office site. Both locations will require travel to their country’s field sites to review trials, plus periodic travel for meetings to the neighboring country.

What you will do:
  • Lead and engage with scientific leaders, research agronomists, and commercial partners to launch approximately 10 new products per year, ensuring improvements in genetic gain, next‑generation biotech traits, end‑use qualities suitable for downstream needs such as biofuel processing, and digital prescription for optimal customer experience.
  • Strategically support unit coordination, architect resource allocations to meet commercial needs within target markets, and maintain focus on operational excellence.
  • Ensure the unit strategically delivers on the pipeline, meeting key KPIs in resource utilization, pipeline delivery, PCM3+ product performance, and navigating the registration process; act as a catalyst for continuous improvement and innovation across breeding, field, and operations.
  • Create a pull and process to implement next‑generation breeding, field, and operations innovations that accelerate enhancements in the breeding pipeline.
  • Architect alignment of breeding targets, product concepts, testing strategies, and data‑driven design for all phases of the canola and biofuel product development pipeline, and establish Camelina and winter canola pipelines.
  • Facilitate collaboration with expertise communities to articulate talent needs; request talent resources strategically and provide input on specific employees aligned with strategic objectives.
  • Demonstrate and embrace VACC leadership attributes within the unit and with peers and colleagues across Bayer Crop Science.
  • Be a key contributor to the North America Region on technical strategies for canola, camelina, cover cress, and across crops; also contribute to the expansion of spring canola business to AUS.
  • Strategically drive focus on SHE, Compliance, Business Conduct, and Human Rights across the unit, cultivating a culture of ethical practices, compliance, and environmental responsibility.
  • Collaborate strategically with peers across Bayer Crop Science to enhance technical strategies for canola, camelina, cover cress, and other crops, working with EMEA to source OSR germplasm for winter canola pipeline.
  • Ensure all activities/events are conducted safely and environmentally responsibly in accordance with Bayer Safety, compliance, and Sustainability policies.
Who you are:
  • PhD degree in Plant or Animal Breeding, Quantitative or Statistical Genetics, Data Science or related fields with 8+ years of technology leadership, OR MS degree with 10+ years of technology leadership experience.
  • 5+ years of experience leading teams with demonstrated effectiveness in driving technical strategy, innovation, and people development.
  • 3+ years of experience in breeding and understanding of Canadian and US market segments.
  • Strong knowledge of advanced breeding technologies, advanced analytics, information technologies, genomics and/or quantitative genetics with a proven track record of driving innovation.
  • Strong ability to collaborate and build cross‑functional partnerships to solve business or technical problems.
  • Demonstrate and embrace VACC leadership attributes, fostering a collaborative culture within the unit.

Benefits:

In Canada, employees can expect to be paid a base salary range between CAN $164,800 and CAN $247,200. Additional compensation may include a bonus or incentive. Additional benefits may include health care, vision, dental, disability, contributory retirement savings plans, and more.
