BIOLOGIST PROGRAM MANAGER - DEER PROGRAM MANAGER
LDWF supports a strong work ethic in its employees and incorporates the use of good science, accurate information, and technology. The Office of Wildlife exists to provide wise stewardship of Louisiana's wildlife and associated habitats and increase wildlife conservation awareness.
Job OverviewThis position is responsible for statewide deer program management. The incumbent will be the lead for deer management and research in the state. The position requires regular field travel, overnight stay, participation in regional southeastern working groups, lifting objects over 50 pounds, wildlife necropsy, and operation of off-road vehicles.
Qualifications- Bachelor’s degree in a biological science, marine science, environmental science, wildlife or fisheries, animal science, forestry, or natural resources plus seven years of experience in wildlife or fisheries, forestry, or environmental science.
- Non-thesis master's degree in a biological science, marine science, environmental science, wildlife or fisheries, animal science, forestry, or natural resources plus six years of the required specialized experience.
- Master’s degree with a completed thesis or a doctorate in a biological science, marine science, environmental science, wildlife or fisheries, animal science, forestry, or natural resources plus five years of the required specialized experience.
- Administer and manage the statewide deer program with a focus on white-tailed deer health, habitat management, harvest coordination, and research.
- Collaborate with local and state governments, universities, and other NGOs.
- Evaluate range and habitat conditions, oversee the accomplishment of population and habitat surveys, including deer browse and deer collections.
- Responsible for disease and parasite surveillance.
- Conduct deer data and perform research to inform policy and season recommendations.
- Supervise biologist specialists within the Deer program.
- Appointment type: promotional opportunity open only to permanent employees of the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries.
- Travel: requires regular field travel, overnight stays, participation in regional southeastern working groups.
- Physical: lifting objects over 50 pounds, wildlife necropsy, operating off-road vehicles.
- Domicile: statewide; assigned to one of LDWF field offices:
Minden, Lake Charles, Monroe, Hammond, Pineville, or Lafayette.
