Are you interested in working with a team of environmental scientists throughout the state tasked with permitting transportation projects in California? Ready to tackle complex fish and wildlife issues related to Caltrans' transportation projects? Do you have extensive knowledge of California's environmental laws and regulations? Do you have work experience with California's sensitive fish and wildlife species and the habitats they rely upon?

If so, consider applying for the statewide Caltrans coordinator in CDFW's headquarters office in West Sacramento minutes away from Sutter Health Park with minor and major league baseball. This position facilitates statewide coordination for transportation related topics; coordinates headquarters program support for regional liaisons, tracks and reports on Caltrans mitigation compliance, and participates on interagency teams with Caltrans to implement legislative mandates (i.e., AB-1282 Transportation Permitting Task Force recommendations, fish passage barriers, and wildlife connectivity.)

This position is responsible for managing the contract between CDFW and Caltrans for environmental review and ensuring compliance with the contract and state law. This position also coordinates with CDFW regions, wildlife and fisheries branches, and conservation engineering to facilitate a statewide consistent approach to environmental permitting and mitigation.

Effective July 1, 2025, state employees are subject to temporary salary reductions ranging from 2% to 4.62% in exchange for Personal Leave Program (PLP) hours. Please note that the salary ranges listed in this Job Control may not reflect these reductions associated with the 2025 Personal Leave Program.

This position may be eligible for a telework opportunity in accordance with departmental policies and operational needs. Beginning July 1, 2026, employees will be required to work in-person at least four (4) days per week in alignment with Executive Order N-22-25. Additional in-office days may be required based on operational needs.

Ability to use a computer keyboard several hours a day; i.e., working at a computer most of the time. Attend virtual and in-person meetings, conduct presentations, and work with statewide scientific staff to complete assignments. Occasional overnight travel, up to 3 % regional office visits and field work may be required.
