About this role:
The Franchise Tax Board’s mission is to help taxpayers file tax returns timely and accurately, and to pay the correct amount to fund services important to Californians. The protection of taxpayer information and privacy is one of our foundational principles that support that mission, and you have the opportunity to be directly involved as a valued member of our Security Operations Center (SOC).
Under the direction of the SOC Supervisor and SOC Management, you will perform a wide variety of tasks related to cybersecurity monitoring within the Franchise Tax Board (FTB)’s SOC, which contributes to the protection of FTB’s systems, data, and people. The regular work schedule will include weekends and holidays, in order to provide 24x7 coverage.

Working Conditions- This position is eligible for limited remote‑working within California based on departmental guidelines and operational need. FTB has a minimum in‑office requirement of four days per week for all positions including those that are eligible for telework.

Desirable Qualifications- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to work with a technical and non‑technical stakeholder.
- Experience demonstrating analytical skills.
- Ability to work within a team environment.
- Knowledge of Information Technology systems, with respect to hardening and defending them.
- Experience in a Cybersecurity/Information Security role, such as security vulnerability assessment, security event analysis, security technology (firewall, anti‑virus, web security, data loss prevention, Security Information and Event Management (SIEM), and/or User and Entity Behavior Analytics (UEBA)), Security Tool Administration, Knowledge and experience with Incident Response.
- Ability to work well under pressure and adapt to changing priorities.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related major.
- Certification related to Cyber defense, incident response, penetration testing, or security management.
