SummaryProtection Officers serve as the alert, vigilant, and diligent public face of STPG Koop Dr. Complex. The ideal candidate possesses integrity, accountability, and independent problem‑solving abilities. Armed Security patrols or monitors premises to provide security and prevent theft, violence, or infractions of rules. Officers will be armed with an assigned weapon, such as a handgun. They may operate x‑ray, metal detectors, and other technology depending on their station.
They provide specialized armed security services and protection to facilities, grounds, property, employees, and the public. Work involves monitoring access points, controlling entry to grounds and facilities, and force protection. This includes identifying persons, reviewing credentials, controlling access to restricted areas, conducting security patrols of the perimeter and interior of all buildings, regulating the activities of employees and the public, issuing warnings to enforce the laws, rules, and regulations, and securing and assisting emergency personnel when needed.
The role requires approaching, addressing, and defusing unpredictable and potentially hazardous situations; assessing and responding to potential terrorist, criminal, or other harmful scenarios pending police intervention. Work is performed under minimal supervision in accordance with prescribed regulations and procedures and is reviewed through personal inspection and report review by a supervisor.
Essential Job Functions- Controls access to Government Buildings, including specific facilities and restricted areas, by screening all visitors, consultants, and contracted personnel to determine the status of individuals, the reason for and location of visit, and whether access should be granted; denies access to unauthorized personnel or those who do not meet authorized entry criteria
- Enforces strict entry requirements, greets visitors, verifies credentials, determines purpose of visit, and inspects incoming vehicles or packages
- Secures restricted areas, monitors surveillance systems (CCTV), and prevents unauthorized access or theft of government property
- Conducts frequent foot or mobile patrols of interior and exterior government property to deter, detect, and respond to suspicious activity
- Detects, responds to, contains, expels persons determined to be a security threat and monitors critical incidents
- Approaches, assesses, and deescalates unpredictable and potentially volatile situations; requests police, fire, and medical personnel; and provides support and backup as necessary
- Utilizes de‑escalation tactics, restraint methods, and authorized firearms only as a last resort in extreme, life‑threatening situations
- Carries and maintains authorized firearms and defensive equipment, applying force only as a last resort
- Serves as the primary responder to alarms, medical emergencies, active threats, and facility evacuations
- Administers first aid treatment to individuals requiring immediate medical attention in situations where other emergency personnel are not present
- Maintains accurate daily logs, documents physical security breaches, and writes detailed incident and police‑style reports for federal/state review
- Requires regular, consistent attendance

Must currently have, or have previously held, Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certification. Highly trained in de‑escalation, conflict resolution, and split‑second decision‑making. Exercises maximum restraint and sound judgment regarding the use of lethal and non‑lethal force. Maintains knowledge of federal regulations and local jurisdiction laws. Continued training or education may be required to maintain and add credentialed skill sets. Employee must be able to operate basic office equipment, office computer, and specialized equipment needed for the position.
