The Louisiana State Penitentiary is currently seeking a motivated and detail-oriented professional to serve as a Corrections Captain, a key leadership role within the institution.
As one of Louisiana’s largest correctional institutions, Louisiana State Penitentiary relies on experienced leaders who can support staff and uphold the highest standards of professionalism, accountability, and operational efficiency. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong organizational skills, sound judgment, and a commitment to supporting the men and women who work to maintain safety and order within the facility.
Qualifications- Three (3) years of experience in a correctional, behavioral, or penal institution with responsibility for the security, custody, rehabilitation, or classification of offenders, or in law enforcement or security.
- Plus at least one of the following:
- Possession of a high school diploma or GED.
- One year of experience in any field.
- Six months of law‑enforcement experience as a POST certified peace officer.
- One year of this experience must have been in a position equivalent in scope of responsibility or complexity to a Corrections Lieutenant in the State service.
- Applicant must be at least 18 years of age.
- Possession of a current driver’s license.
- Applicants with a conviction for a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence or a felony, or who are under indictment on a felony charge, will be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted.
- Applicants who have engaged in any form of sexual abuse, or who have participated in sexual activities in the community that involved force, threats of force, or coercion, or where the victim did not consent or was unable to consent, will be disqualified.
- Inspect all areas of supervision ensuring they are properly cleaned, sanitary, operating efficiently and are in compliance with safety, health, and ACA regulations.
- Ensure officers are on their assigned drops and are working according to LSP policies and procedures.
- Supervise count procedures, meal activities, callouts, and other routine management functions.
- Supervise and assist officers in handling disturbances or incidents.
Special Entrance Rate (SER): $24.64 per hour.
Premium pay: $1.00 to $2.00 per hour for each regular hour worked, based on years of service with DOC, in addition to regular pay.
