The Department of Public Safety Police, a statewide law enforcement agency responsible for ensuring safety, order, and security across the state.
Eligibility & Requirements- Minimum age: 21 years.
- Current driver's license.
- Willingness and ability to attain a Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certification.
- Clean criminal record: no misdemeanor domestic violence convictions, no felony convictions, or pending indictment.
- Post‑certified applicants are exempt from the Protective Services Exam.
- Ability to qualify firearms, complete advanced driver and weapons training, pass a thorough background investigation, and meet all annual training requirements.
- Non‑POST‑certified applicants may need to complete a physical assessment (1.5‑mile run, push‑ups, sit‑ups).
- Conduct proactive police patrols, issue citations, investigate crashes, and respond to all calls for service.
- Patrol assigned area to deter and prevent criminal activity.
- Investigate crashes, ensure bystanders’ safety, render first aid, interview drivers and witnesses, and prepare narrative reports.
- Supervise removal of injured persons and vehicles to restore highway safety and flow.
- Investigate any crime or complaint within the patrol area; document findings and enlist assistance if needed.
- Serve as a Field Training Officer for newly hired officers (if required).
- Inspect and maintain equipment.
- Provide police protection to state employees, visitors, and elected officials at key locations.
- Enforce state and local laws within the Capitol Complex, State Facilities, Headquarters compound, and State Police Barracks.
- Coordinate transport of offenders to work assignments, hospital visits, funeral trips, and supervise facility security at the 1,700‑acre barracks.

Any parish statewide; applicant must live within 75 miles of assigned location.

Work Schedule
: 24-hour, 7 days a week; shift work (days, nights, weekends, holidays).
Compensation
:
Salary ranges from $42,016 per year (Cadet) to $92,851 per year (Corporal), based on qualifications and experience.
