Duties
- Primarily responsible for the implementation of policies and development of procedures for the physical protection
- Coordinate with other installation elements and other agencies in the preparation of emergency plans
- Prepare reports and make recommendations for remedial actions when warranted to appropriate supervisors/chiefs
- Advise the Director of Emergency Services on all physical security matters
- Prepare, maintain and update the arms, ammunition and explosives and physical security plans
- Present orientations and classes on physical security to security representatives/activity personnel
- Assign work to subordinates based on priorities, selective consideration of the difficulty and requirements of assignments, and the capabilities of employees
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation
- This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 25% of the time
- This position is supervisory as defined by the Office of Personnel Management's (OPM) General Schedule Supervisory Guide (GSSG). A one‑year probation to assess your ability to perform supervisory duties is required unless previously completed
- This position requires the incumbent to obtain the following core SPED Certification:
Security Fundamentals Professional Certification (SFPC) within their first two years of employment - This position is subject to a pre‑employment screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on‑duty accident
- This position is subject to the provisions of the Domestic Violence Offender Gun Ban commonly referred to as the Lautenberg Amendment
- This position requires the incumbent to be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment
- The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles
- This position has been designated "Mission Essential"
- In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations (natural or man‑made disaster) the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations

One year of specialized experience which includes
1) conducting routine physical and internal security inspections,
2) collaborating with others to establish physical security policies, and
3) evaluating the effectiveness of existing security practices to recommend appropriate action to correct deficiencies. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS‑11).
Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS‑11).
