The Correctional Sergeant, under the supervision of the assigned Correctional Lieutenant, develops plans, coordinates, organizes, and supervises and directs Correctional Officers in the general security provisions within an Adult Institution. Develops schedules and operational methods specific to all secured areas within and out of an Institutional setting maintaining all security protocols. The Correctional Sergeant is responsible to ensure that Correctional Officers maintain security and inmate discipline.
Ensure that Correctional Officers work cohesively with a multiple classification of departmental staff in the maintenance of all inmate health care access and provisions. The Correctional Sergeant is responsible for his/her entire area/facility/unit, ensuring the safe custody, discipline and welfare of all inmates is maintained. The Correctional Sergeant will develop, implement and practice safe supervisory practices, assuring that compliance with established departmental/institutional policies and procedures are maintained.
Conditions
California Correctional Institution is located in the Tehachapi Mountains approximately 325 miles south of Sacramento and approximately 120 miles north of Los Angeles. CCI is a Multi-level, Sensitive Needs Yard, facility comprising three (3) facilities, encompassed within a campus style layout with varied terrain. Work in this location may require exposure to varied temperatures dependent upon the season.
Minimum Requirements- CORRECTIONAL SERGEANT

Principles and practices of correctional administration and rehabilitation and methods of discipline as applied to persons under restraint; principles and practices of personnel supervision and training; first aid; use and care of firearms; department's affirmative action program objectives; a manager's role in the affirmative action program and the processes available to meet affirmative action objectives.
Ability to:
Supervise the work of others; control, direct, and instruct inmates individually and in groups; interpret and enforce institutional rules and regulations with firmness, tact, and impartiality; promote socially acceptable attitudes and behavior of inmates or parolees and to rate their conduct and productivity accurately and impartially; think and act quickly in emergencies; make simple arithmetic computations; analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action;
keep records and prepare reports; effectively contribute to the department's affirmative action objectives.
