SUMMARY

The Joint Intelligence and Security (JIS) Division, under the leadership of the Assistant Secretary General (ASG) for Intelligence and Security, comprises two principal pillars:
Intelligence headed by the Deputy ASG for Intelligence; and the NATO Office of Security (NOS) headed by the Deputy ASG for Security (DASG‑S) / Director NOS. The NOS is responsible for the overall coordination of NATO security among member Nations, NATO civil and military bodies as well as International Organisations and partner countries with which NATO cooperates. It also protects the NATO Headquarters (HQ), its personnel in Brussels and abroad on mission and in satellite offices, and the Secretary General.

The NOS comprises the Office of the Director, the Security and Policy Oversight Branch (SPOB), the Protective Security and Emergency Services Branch (PSESB), the Security Intelligence Branch (SIB) and the Close Protection Unit (CPU).

The PSESB’s mission is to ensure the security and safety of the NATO HQ, its people, infrastructure and information. In coordination with the Host Nation it analyses threats and vulnerabilities, determines risks and takes action to minimise them. Its staff work in domains such as access management, security regulations and infractions, physical security, security awareness and special events. It also provides advice on protective security issues in NATO satellite offices.

The incumbent works as part of the HQ Security Force and is responsible for carrying out security duties (in a shift system including nights, weekends and holidays) connected with the protection – personnel, infrastructure and information – of the NATO HQ in Brussels or any other assigned location, armed or otherwise, as circumstances dictate. The incumbent manages the Site Security Centre (SSC) and/or leads a mobile intervention team and/or manages access control and the screening of deliveries and vehicles entering the NATO HQ.

Work is supervised by the on‑duty G7 (C5) Inspector.

• Manage the SSC and/or lead a mobile intervention team and/or manage access control and the screening of deliveries and vehicles entering the NATO HQ.
• Assist the Inspector in organising and supervising the work of a team of security agents; carry out emergency counter‑measures required in response to an incident or an alarm.
• Assist the Inspector in managing the team including performance management, newcomers’ induction and staff morale matters; contribute to the integration of new members.
• Ensure that operating instructions are communicated to the security agents and are followed.
• Manage the administrative work for the team; draft detailed, yet concise security‑related reports or recommendations as required, providing necessary relevant information.
• Follow in‑house training programmes as directed by management, including physical training and weapon‑handling rules of engagement, medical training (Basic Life Support) and tactical armed intervention training. Monitor that all members receive the training required to maintain the appropriate level of preparedness.
• Deal tactfully, politely and discreetly but firmly with staff and visitors on‑site to ensure that they follow necessary security procedures; respond calmly and concisely to all incoming, including emergency, calls at the Site Security Centre.
• Assist the G7 (C5) Inspector in workforce planning; monitor and analyse work methods.
• Perform any other related duty as assigned.

• Good general education, equivalent to higher secondary level.
• At least four years’ experience as a member of a security or police force (military or civilian), national military or equivalent.
• Experience in the use of non‑lethal weapons and firearms and ability to pass regular shooting tests.
• Good physical condition enabling intervention in emergency situations and ability to pass regular psychological and/or physical tests.
• Capability to undertake theoretical and practical training such as EOR (Explosive Ordnance Reconnaissance), tactical armed intervention, traffic control, and emergency communications as required.
