The Campus Safety Officer (CSO) reports to the Director of Campus Safety and is responsible for providing a safe and secure environment for the university community and all of its members. The position involves front‑desk and telecommunication duties, as well as on‑foot or vehicle patrols, assisting in the operation of the Campus Safety Department.
Responsibilities- Campus security and patrol – Provide security for persons, buildings, and assist the university through a variety of security techniques. Patrol the campus in accordance with Department Guidelines and University Policy.
- Monitor CCTV system and maintain security logs in accordance with the Jeanne Clery Act.
- Respond to requests for assistance and information in a helpful, courteous manner.
- Assist with directing vehicular or pedestrian traffic and provide directions and information to the public, students, staff, and faculty.
- Enforce university regulations and policies, including parking and traffic regulations.
- Maintain up‑to‑date officer logs, clearances, directory, and other required data entry.
- Communicate and coordinate multiple simultaneous activities, and provide rapid response to law enforcement or other emergency requirements.
- Operate radios and other communication devices to coordinate with other Campus Safety Officers.
- Complete required reports and documentation.
- High School Diploma required;
Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice or related field preferred. - Must possess a valid driver’s license and be insurable; must also be able to serve as an approved park driver.
- Prior security experience preferred.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to prepare security reports, complaint and witness statements, and general information for the university community.
- Sensitivity toward the cultural diversity of the campus community.
- Must complete background screening and provide full disclosure of all felony and/or misdemeanor violations.
Part‑time position working 20 hours per week. Work may be assigned to day, evening, overnight, or overlapping shifts. Weekends and special details are required to provide 24/7, 365‑day security and service to the main campus. The schedule is flexible and can change with the needs of the department.
Technical Proficiency- Microsoft Office:
Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Publisher. - Familiarity with Report Exec, Facility Commander, campus safety email, EProcess, Jenzabar, and other campus security programs.
