Position SummaryThe Enterprise Physical Operations, Infrastructure, Capital Programs & Real Estate (EPO) department at WashU provides integrated operational, infrastructure, planning, and facility services that support the university’s mission of excellence in education, research, patient care, and community engagement. EPO manages and supports 28 million gross square feet across 235+ buildings and associated infrastructure systems, encompassing academic, research, clinical, residential, administrative, and support facilities across the university’s campuses and operations. Proactively analyze and investigate potential threats and complex criminal schemes directed at Wash U; perform and coordinate crime avoidance and prevention training for the campus community; author crime avoidance and prevention products to raise awareness of crime issues impacting the campus; conduct activities to ensure the university’s compliance with the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (Clery Act);
collect, interpret, and disseminate intelligence information in support of operations and physical security; take immediate action to direct WashU Protective Services staff as necessary.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Conducts sensitive investigations and participates in threat assessment activities originating from Protective Services, Human Resources, Internal Audit, Risk Management, Faculty Practice Plan and other campus subunits.
- Performs and coordinates orientation and in-service training sessions for faculty, staff and students in crime avoidance and prevention and routinely carry out proactive outreach activities with campus leaders to raise awareness of such training programs offered by Protective Services.
- Researches, investigates and composes original crime avoidance and prevention training materials, including social media posts, for university consumers, including faculty, staff and students.
- Investigates facts and circumstances of near-campus crimes for nexus to the University and reports requirements of the Clery Act; assists in compiling statistics and other information for the annual campus security report as mandated by the Clery Act.
- Identifies vulnerable areas within the campus and its infrastructure that will benefit from increased security concentration or technology for greater protection of employees, visitors and assets; researches and reports on advanced security options and new technologies; ensures protection of sensitive research/clinical personnel and assets from domestic terror organizations and similar groups.
- Prepares training and informational materials, including alerts, bulletins and BOLOs, for Protective Services officers and counterparts from other departments and agencies; coordinates activities/collaborates with St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, Barnes-Jewish Hospital Public Safety and neighborhood security agencies.
- Serves as the unit’s primary relief supervisor in the absence of the manager, Crime and Special Services Unit.
