Under the general supervision of the MAIT Sergeant, the MCS Iperforms collision-involved vehicle inspections, related to pre-impact and post-impact, of vehicles involved in collisions to determine if a mechanical component could have contributed to the cause of the collision. The MCS Iis required to operate a state vehicle for travel throughout the Division as necessary, primarily for traveling to and from tow yards, collision scenes, and carrier terminals.

The MCS Iperforms duties consistent with the procedures and guidelines established in Highway Patrol Manual (HPM) 110.1, MAIT operations manual, and HPM 84.1, Motor Carrier Safety Operations. The MCS Ialso determines compliance with applicable laws and regulations contained in the California Vehicle Code, Title 13 – California Code of Regulation, Health and Safety Code, and Title 49 – Code of Federal Regulations.

Multidisciplinary Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) assignments are by administrative decision, per General Order (G.O.) 10.6, Field and Headquarters Assignments and Transfers Nonuniformed Employees; these are not subject to the seniority transfer process.
